Obituary
John H. (Sweet John) Atkins, age 66, died Wednesday, May 13. 2009 at the Heart of Georgia Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16. 2009 at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. George L. Fluellen officiating. Interment followed in the Eastman Cemetery.
Mr. Atkins worked as a laborer until he retired. He volunteered for many years at the Dodge County High School athletic department. This is where he acquired the nickname, "Sweet John." He was preceded in death by his parents, John Crawford and Harriett Stith Atkins; and two grandchildren, Howard J. Ward III and Matthew James Ward.
Survivors include his wife; three children; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
