Obituary

Joseph Fordham, "J. R.." age 91, of St. Simons Island died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Hospice of the Golden Isles after a brief stay. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bob Brearly and Dr. John Law officiating. Mr. Fordham was a native of Plainfield. Mr. Fordham had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 27 years. He was a member of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He retired from Chevron Oil Company in 1982 after 36 years. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army in the India-Burma Theater and achieved the rank of Major upon discharge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Fordham and Effie Taylor Fordham. Survivors include his wife; four children; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Parkway Brunswick, Georgia 31525 or the St. Simons Presbyterian Church, 205 Kings Way St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522 or the charity of your choice. Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick was in charge of arrangements.
