On Monday, April 8, 2013, James Edward Yeomans was called home to be with the Lord. James is survived by his wife; children; stepchildren; sister-in-law; and grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Bridges Yeomans. Born in Chauncey, Georgia on July 27, 1941, to Edward Lee and Jewell Thelma Yeomans, James learned the values of honesty and hard work at an early age. James was a graduate of Dodge County High School and later attended Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia where he not only received his certification from the UGA School of Pharmacy in 1963, but he also began a lifelong love of the Georgia Bulldogs. Early in his career as a pharmacist, James moved to Milan, Georgia where he opened his own drug store, “The Milan Drug Company.” James was an active member of the Milan community and was very proud of the fact that he served Milan in the following capacities: President of the Milan PTO, President of the Milan Booster Club, Chairman of the Milan Christmas Parade, Chairman of the Milan County Celebration, Coach of the Milan Pony League, President of the Milan Lions Club, President of the Milan Jaycees, member of Freedom Baptist Church, was a city councilman and Mayor pro temp of Milan. It was during this time that the citizens of Milan began to affectionately refer to James as “Doc”. James also had the pleasure of working as a pharmacist in Macon, Jackson and Thomaston, Georgia and later worked for both Rite-Aid and Fred’s Pharmacy. This was James' 50th year as a pharmacist. James lived life to the fullest, whether it was cheering his Georgia Bulldogs to victory, being with his family and friends, or telling one of his famous stories in a style unique only to Doc. The many customers, who either did business with James or who just came to visit and talk, knew that to James they were more than jut a business transaction – they were his family. Going to work for James was not really work – it was a time to help, be with, and enjoy his extended family. James was so honored and touched to have the city of Milan dedicate the 2010 Milan Harvest Festival to him. In living life, James led by example and always knew that in dealing with others, you could not always go by the book, but by the heart. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. Services for James “Doc” Yeomans will be held at 1:30P.M.M., Thursday, April 11, at Freedom Baptist Church with burial in the Milan Cemetery.
