Mrs. Alice Myrtle Hood Bennett, 99, of Waycross died Saturday (Jan. 21, 2006) at Satilla Care Center, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Empire, GA, (Dodge County) (Aug. 5, 1906) and spent the first part of her life in Pearson and then the last 40 years in Waycross. Mrs. Bennett is the daughter of the late Edward Walter Hood and Patience Ann Parker. She was the loving mother of 5 children and perfected the art of homemaking for them. The loves of Mrs. Bennett’s life were her family and her church. Loving matriarch of a 140-member family, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Eli Bennett of Axson, GA; 2 daughters, Edna Lois Stone (Bud, deceased) of Jacksonville, FL; and Thelma Lee Martin (Alex, deceased) of Jackson, GA. She is survived by two daughters; one son; 15 grand children; 49 great-grand children; 69 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren, and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives. Baptized at 8 years of age, Mrs. Bennett was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). She loved her faith and enjoyed worshipping at LDS temples. She was an active member of her church and showed her love for fellow members through the Church’s Relief Society helping those in need. She was also a Visiting Teacher, visiting fellow members in their homes, ensuring their well-being and spiritual development. Mrs. Bennett also loved flower gardening, quilt making, and traveling. She was known to many as the best cook in Atkinson County. She also enjoyed music and singing, especially, church hymns. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Waycross Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located on Central Ave. Burial will follow at Little Utah Cemetery, Axson, Georgia. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 at Music Funeral Home in Waycross, located at 1503 Tebeau Street. Pallbearers will be Richard Stone, Dakota Douglas, Ben Stone, Kevin Ashe, Mark Stone and Andrew Warner.
