Obituary

MR. GEORGE LESLIE HOLLAND, age 81, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, March 24, 2023, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, March 27, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Chuck Yzenski and Rev. Jeffrey Wyatt officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Leslie was a lifelong resident of Dodge County, a dedicated member and church worker at Lovely Grove Baptist Church for many years, and an over the road truck driver for over 46 years. He worked with many companies over the years including, Stuckey’s Inc., H & H Trucking, Colorado Boxed Beef, W.T. Howell and Sons, and Watkins Trucking. He was a board member of the Dodge County Senior Citizens Center for several years and enjoyed spending time with his loving companion, Kema, and helping others with yard work. He also enjoyed traveling, auctions, antiquing with his brothers-in-law, Therell and James, and life in general. Leslie was the son of the late Mertice Estell Massingill Holland and George Iverson Holland and was preceded in death by his Wives, Myrtle Ellington Holland and Betty Waters Holland, Step-Daughter, Dianne Volmar, Step-Grandson, Stevie Volmar, and Brother-in-law, J.W. Smith. He is survived by his Son – Anthony “Tony” Holland (Kathy Parish) of East Dublin; Companion of 15 years – Kema Sheffield of Eastman; Step-Son – Mark Sheffield (April) of Eastman; Step-Daughter – Sheila Helms-Wyatt of Plant City, FL; Step-Son-in-law – J.W. Volmar of Alamo, GA; 2 Sisters – Joyce Ryals of Eastman and Gail Smith of Macon; Nephews and Niece – Ron Ryals (Sharon) of Cumming, Chris Ryals of Milledgeville, and Seleena Smith of Macon; Sister-in-law and Brothers-in-law – Dora Watson, Floyd Cobb, both of Hawkinsville, Therell Cobb of Eastman, Leon Cobb of Fort Valley, and James Stephens of Hawkinsville; Numerous Extended Family Members and Friends. The family may be contacted at the residence of Kema Sheffield, 5018 Creighton Street, Eastman, and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 10:00AM-11:00AM Monday, March 27. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Lovely Grove Baptist Church or the Dodge County Senior Citizens Center.
