Obituary

COACH TROY EDWARD JONES, JR., age 76, of Eastman, GA, died Sunday December 5, 2021, in the Dodge County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wayne McDaniel and Mr. Norwood Davidson officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Coach Jones was born in Folkston, attended McRae Presbyterian Church, and was a retired coach and educator for the Dodge County School System for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Brewton Parker College, received his bachelor's in Physical Education from the University of Georgia, and received in master’s degree in Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern University. He was a former deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church in Eastman and he was a dedicated family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, sports, and was a WWII history buff. He started coaching in 1968 under Royce Conner. In 1977, Coach Jones served as the head football, basketball, and baseball coach, as well as the Athletic Director and he continued to coach in basketball and football for several years. He served as the Eastman-Dodge Recreation Director from 1971-1980 and was the only Dodge County recipient of the Jefferson Memorial Award. He was a former assistant manager of the Jameson Inn for over 10 years and a former employee of Wal-Mart, Inc. for over 13 years. Troy was the son of the late Bernice Mattox Jones and Troy Edward Jones, Sr. and was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Jones Justice, and sister-in-law, Charlene LaRay Campbell Davis. He is survived by his Loving and Devoted Wife; Daughter; Son; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; Brother-in-law; Several Nieces, Nephews, and Numerous Friends and Former Co-Workers . The family may be contacted at the Jones residence and will receive friends in Dodge County Middle School Gymnasium from 6:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday, December 7.
