Obituary

MR. LENARD UPSHAW, age 78, of Eastman, GA, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, May 23, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Jerry McClellan officiating, with interment in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Lenard was born in Laurens County, of the Christian Faith, and attended school in Cadwell before leaving school to work on the family farm after his father passed away. He later married and began his family in Chauncey, GA and continued to farm for the entirety of his life. He was a cabinet maker for Rentz Cabinet Company in Rentz, GA, for a several years, worked as an automotive mechanic in Milan at the station for a few years, and farmed with Dean Scarborough on his farm for many years. Lenard enjoyed tending cattle on Mark Knowles Farm for the past several years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR Racing, watching wrestling and westerns on TV. He also enjoyed gardening and hanging out at the Flash Foods in Milan, GA. He was affectionately known as “Upshaw” and “Unk” and was especially fond of his hunting buddies, “The Florida Boys”. Lenard was the son of the late Lucy Mae Dixon Upshaw and Jack Upshaw and was preceded in death by his Wife, Elise Hayes Upshaw, Daughter, Tonya Upshaw Martinez, and Sons, James “Pee Wee” Williams and Shannon Upshaw. He is survived by his Daughter; Son-in-law; Grandchildren; Great-Grandchildren; Sisters; Brothers; Sister-in-law; Numerous Nieces and Nephews. The family may be contacted at the residence and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 5:00PM-7:00PM Wednesday, May 22.
