Obituary

Paul Eugene McDougald, age 77, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Perfect Care. Services are planned for 11:00 on Friday, September 8, at Lee Street Methodist Church with Rev. Daryl Brown officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 7, between the hours of 5:00 & 7:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Interment will be private in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Rhyne, GA. Paul Eugene McDougald, son of George Renfro McDougald, Sr. and Lounell Walker McDougald Henderson, was born on December 10, 1945. He attended Americus City schools where he made many lifelong friends. He attended Georgia Southwestern College where he worked on the committee that transitioned the Phi Delta local fraternity into Pi Kappa Phi national fraternity. He was the #1 initiate as well as the first Archon (president). After graduating from college, he had a career in accounting that required him to travel and live in many areas such as Atlanta, Birmingham, Louisiana, Moultrie, and Thomasville. He always wanted to return to Americus and when he did, he began his new career as a school teacher, teaching in the Sumter and Crisp County school systems. Teaching was his second love, as his first were his dogs. Pepper, Prissy, and Oscar who preceded him in death. Then along came Molly, Sophia, and Diablo who were re-homed when he became ill. Preceding him in death are his parents; a brother, George R. McDougald, Jr. (Marlene); and a sister, Helen McDougald McGoldrick (Jack). Surviving him are a brother; a sister and a special friend.
