Obituary

MR. SAMUEL DAVID HILL, age 56, of Chauncey, GA, died Monday, September 12, 2022, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, September 15, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Upchurch officiating, with interment in Chauncey City Cemetery. Sam was born in McRae and raised in Dodge County. He was a member of Chauncey Baptist Church, a 1984 graduate of Dodge County School, attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and later graduated from Heart of Georgia Technical College with his certification as a HVAC technician. After college, he went to work for Little Ocmulgee EMC as a service technician for their locally owned Radio Shack store. He worked and assisted customers with the store for over 25 years and continued to assist his customers even after the store closed. He continued his career with Little Ocmulgee as a journeyman lineman to give him over 34 years’ service. Work ethic and generosity, he had them in spades. His word was his bond. After fulfilling his work obligations, in the evening he would serve his community by repairing and restoring appliances. Whether on the electric lines or in a neighbor’s kitchen, Sam spent his life finding and implementing solutions. The expression “full of life” comes to mind when thinking of Sam. He truly left this world better than he found it. His life is a perfect example of the application in bringing Heaven to Earth. Sam enjoyed being outdoors working, hunting, and playing. He had a passion for turkey hunting, but enjoyed deer and duck hunting, as well as fishing and most of all, spending time with his family. He was the son of the late Sara Moore McCranie-Hill and David Hill. He is survived by the Love of his life, his Fiancé; Daughter; Son; Step-Daughter' Soon to be Grandson; 2 Brothers; 4 Sisters-in-law; Noble Companions – Piper and Dot; Several Nieces and Nephews. The family may be contacted at the Hill residence and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 2:00PM-3:00PM Thursday, September 15.
