Obituary

MRS. MARY LILLA JONES GRIMSLEY, age 87, of Albany, GA, formerly of Milan, GA, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 14, 2022. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2:00PM Monday, January 17, at Antioch #2 Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Jack Lee officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30PM-2:00PM for family and friends at the cemetery. Mrs. Grimsley was born in Milan, GA on December 31, 1934, and graduated from Milan High School where she was involved in 4H and played basketball. She attended business school in Eastman and South Georgia College Campus in McRae. She was a past treasurer of Eastern Star in McRae and was in Who’s Who of America. Mary was a loan clerk at the Bank of Eastman and Lumber Executive of M. C. Jones Lumber Company of Milan. She later moved to Albany and was employed by The Georgia State Department of Revenue where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of Porterfield Methodist Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Woman’s Club, and was an avid volunteer for Meals On Wheels, all of Albany. Mary was born into a large loving family and at one time had 75 first cousins. She raised her children Marilyn and Bill on how to love and appreciate family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who dearly loved her family unconditionally. Mary enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano, reading, attending church, and working in her garden. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Mary was the daughter of the late Monroe C. Jones and Ruby Evans Jones, widow of the late Loran I. Grimsley, Sr., and was preceded in death by the father of her children William M. Heaton, Sr., 3 siblings, Geraldine Kirkley of Albany, Billy C. Jones, and M. Charles Jones, both of Milan, and sister-in-law, Lois Ellis and husband Dr. Matt Ellis of Cleveland, TN. She is survived by her Children; Grandchildren; Great-Grandchildren; Sister; Brother; Sisters-in-Law; Several loving nieces and nephews and their families and numerous cousins; Affinis Hospice caretakers.
