JUDGE JAMES BISHOP, SR.. OF EASTMAN DIES TUESDAY Was Ninety-eight Years Old, and One of Oldest Citizens of Dodge County; Masonic Funeral Today. EASTMAN June 15, Judge James Bishop, Sr., who was probably the oldest citizen of Dodge county, died at his home in this city at 8:30 o'clock on Tuesday morning at the age of ninety-eight and one-half years. Judge Bishop had been in falling health for the past several years and his death was not unexpected, although he had been active in business and in charge of his affairs dally ,until some two or three years ago, He was one of the pioneer residents of this section, having been born at Hawkinsville on December 1, 1829, For many years he resided at Inglewood on the Ocmulgee river in what was then Wilkinson, later Pulaski, and now Dodge county, moving to Eastman before the town was formed. During his long filled active life he was largely Instrumental in the great development which has taken place the city and county He held many offices of public trust, being mayor of the city on several occasions, judge of the County Court, county school commissioner for a term of more than twenty years, He was also president of the Merchants & Farmers Bank of the city for a long period. Judge Bishop was, one of the oldest members of the Masonic fraternity in the state, having become identified with Mount Hope Lodge No, 9, of Hawkinsville, In the year 1850, his connection with that order covering a space of seventy years. Surviving Judge Bishop are four daughters: Mrs. K. W. Bullock, of Tampa, Fla. Miss Helen Bishop of Eastman, Mrs. C B. Bush of Asheville, N. C. Mrs. Mary Harrison of Eastman. The funeral will occur at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Masonic honors.
