Dr. Harry Donald (Don) Dobbs, Age 77, of Eastman, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Funeral Services were held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, January 9, in First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Mr. Wayne McDaniel and Rev. Mr. Charles Cox officiating, with, Intennent in Orphans Cemetery. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, January IO, at Leonard Auditorium, Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dr. Dobbs was born in Atlanta, was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a Professor of Biology at Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina for 40 Years and was son of the late Mary Pinion Dobbs and Harry Hawthorne Dobbs. He was a man who always loved his calling: Teaching the Science of Biology to young men and women. Professor Dobbs was only 22 when he accepted a position on the faculty of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He remained at that Institution until his retirement in 1995. For these 40 years of his life, Dr. Dobbs was a caring and competent advisor for hundreds of pre-medical students. Before coming to Wofford, Dr. Dobbs studied at Emory University, where he camed his B. S., M. S., and eventually his Ph.D. In the many years of his career, Dr. Dobbs balanced his time with his family and his time with his students. Somehow, he did it all, and many honors came his way. His former students created the H. Donald Dobbs Endowed Scholarship Fund in 1990. In 1999, he received his Distinguished Citizen Award from the Wofford Alumnae Executive Council, reflecting his long career in contributions to Wofford College. Survivors include his wife, daughter, two sons, sister, nine grandchildren, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews and cousin. ? were musicians for the funeral service.
