Obituary
Mr. John E. Parkerson, Sr., 85, of Tifton, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Sam Rogers, the Rev. Jerry Lillard and the Rev. Charles Cox officiated. Burial was at Oakridge Cemetery. Born April 26, 1918, in Dodge County, Mr. Parkerson was the son of John James Parkerson, who was killed in World War I in 1918, and Mrs. O.W. Cox Parkerson, also deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice Elliston Parkerson. Mr. Parkerson was a retired bank executive with C&S National Bank in Atlanta, Georgia after over 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, winning the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster (Two Purple Hearts), the Bronze Star Medal with valor (Battle of the Bulge), European Theatre Ribbon with three campaign stars and with his unit, two Presidential Unit Citation, the French Croix de Guerre and Belgian Fourragers.
Mr. Parkerson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; a daughter and son-in-law; and two grandchildren. Also survived by a sister; and two brothers. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, 2004. Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
