Obituary
MRS. NANCY JANE POSTON WILLIAMSON, age 75, of Cochran, GA, died Monday, January 9, 2023, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, January 11, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev Todd Crosby and Chaplain Doug Stevens officiating.
Nancy was born in Eastman, raised in the Roddy Community of Dodge County, and was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church. She was a 1965 graduate of Dodge County High School, attended business school at Middle Georgia College, where she received her degree in business. After college, she went to work at Robins AFB as a secretary for several years. She married in 1968 and moved to Fayetteville, NC with her husband who was stationed at Fort Bragg. During their time in North Carolina, their daughter Wendy was born in 1969 and around that time, the family returned to the Roddy Community. She later went to work for Smith and Harrington Law Firm as a secretary for several years and in 1973 her son Wes was born. Shortly thereafter, she went to work at the Bank of Dodge County as a teller before going to work with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in the 1980s. In the 1990s, she went to work for the Georgia Department of Corrections in personnel management where she eventually retired after 15 years of service. She also worked as a Mary Kay consultant for many years and enjoyed selling cosmetics.
Nancy enjoyed taking care of her family, seeing her daughter in pageants, and helping other young ladies through the years compete in pageants. She also loved shopping, spending time with her friends, was a dedicated wife, and a loving mother and grandmother, who was affectionately known as “Mama Nance†to her grandson. Nancy was the daughter of the late Mae Roy Rozar Poston and James L. Poston and was preceded in death by her Daughter, Wendy Williamson, Brother-in-law, Grayson Moore, and Nephew, Darrin Peacock.
She is survived by her Husband of 55 years; Son; Grandson; Sister; Sisters-in-law and Brother-in-law; Nieces and Nephews; Several Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews also survive.
The family may be contacted at the residence and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 6:00PM-8:00PM Tuesday, January 10. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Eastman First Baptist Church, 5107 Oak Street, Eastman, GA 31023.
