Obituary
Joseph Harris Briley, 92, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2018. The family may be contacted at the residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 11 AM at Gray United Methodist Church. Reverend Jason Dillard will be officiating. Burial services will follow at Elam Memorial Gardens in Gray GA. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 5 PM until 7 PM. at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel.
Joseph was born in Mt. Vernon GA. He was a trained as an aerial gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. Following WWII, he earned a BS in Physics from UGA. He worked for DuPont as he started his family. He returned to Georgia to earn a Juris Doctor from Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He also achieved the rank of Captain in the Air National Guard. He was an attorney in private practice for years before going on to serve as the District Attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit for 20 years, after which time he returned to private practice. He was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church. Joseph was a member of Sincerity Lodge #430 in Gray GA. and a member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple in Macon GA. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Macon GA. Joseph lived a full life on his own terms.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Joseph A. Briley and Mrs. Evelyn Brantley Briley.
Joseph is survived by his sons; Daughter; sisters; Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
