Virgil Shelnut Steele Jr., age 79, died Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Athens. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Orphans Cemetery in Eastman with Rev. Louis 0. Miller, Jr., rector of Christ Episcopal Church of Dublin officiating. Mr. Steele was born in Augusta in 1930. He graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was a die-hard Georgia Bulldog fan and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a farmer, a financial consultant, a Presbyterian, a U. S. Army Veteran and an avid sportsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Virgil Shelnut Steele and Harriet Runyan Steele; a sister, Harriet "Beeps" Steele Hudson; and a brother, William T. "Billy" Steele. Survivors include his daughters; a son; grandchildren; and her sons. Memorial contributions may be made to Orphans Cemetery Association, PO box 4411, Eastman, Ga.
