Obituary
MRS. GWYNELLE JONES LOWERY, age 88, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday August 25, 2022, in her daughter’s home surrounded by family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday August 27, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Clay Layfield and Rev. Michael Soud officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Lowery was a lifelong resident of Dodge County and a member of Eastman First Baptist Church. She actively participated in church activities including teaching 6th grade Sunday School, leading groups of Girls in Action in her home, singing faithfully in the adult choir, and serving as a WMU director. Along with her husband, she led Bible studies for RYDC residents. Her hobbies included painting, bowling, golfing, square dancing, and gardening
Mrs. Lowery was employed in several positions during her lifetime. In her earlier years she worked as a waitress at a local café, at C & J Manufacturing, and for Eugene Smith Jewelers. She then worked as a receptionist for several doctors and with Middle Georgia Medical Supply.
Lovingly known as “Granny Loweryâ€, she always invested a lot of time in the lives of her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She lived out her faith by being a caregiver to her own mother and her husband for years.
She was the daughter of the late Eulas F. Jones and Pearl Pitts Jones and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, R.F. Lowery, Jr. and sibings, Brenis Jones (Marion), Bill Jones (Elizabeth), Everine Mullis (James), Cary Jones and sister-in-law, Betty Jean Jones.
Survivors include three daughters; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, a brother, a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
The family may be contacted at the . The family will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 1:00PM-2:00PM Saturday August 27, one hour before services. In addition to flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideons International and Cornerstone Christian Academy of Eastman First Baptist Church.
