Obituary

MRS. NORMA SHEFFIELD DYKES, age 80, of Eastman, GA, died Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Dodge County Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Monday, December 21, at Giddens-Harrell Cemetery, with Rev. Daniel Cook and Rev. Chad Hendley officiating. Mrs. Dykes was born in Eastman and was a member of Cottondale Baptist Church. She was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of Eastman High School in 1958 and she attended Middle Georgia College. She was a retired civil service employee at Robins AFB, working over 20 years. Mrs. Dykes worked as a nutritionist and was in charge of base housing at Mayport Florida Naval Base in her early years of employment. She was a former Pink Lady and past president of the Dodge County Hospital Auxiliary. Norma was a gifted seamstress, enjoyed gardening, was an avid cook, and a skilled handywoman who could do whatever she set her mind to. She enjoyed reading, learning, and was an eloquent speaker and accomplished writer. She loved genealogy and researching her family history. She was the daughter of the late Myrtie Lee Robertson Sheffield and Russell Talmadge Sheffield and was preceded in death by her Husband, Royce Dykes, 2 Brothers, Joseph Sheffield and Clifton Sheffield, Sister-in-law, Robyn Sheffield, and a Great-Grandson, Aidan Thomas Rogers. She is survived by her Daughter; Son; 4 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; Sister; 2 Brothers; Sister-in-law; Several Nieces and Nephews. Mrs. Dykes will lie-in-state from 1:00PM – 3:00PM Sunday, December 20 in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home. The family may be contacted at the residence.
