Obituary
Mrs. Hazel Roland Bennett, age 92, of Eastman, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Mrs. Bennett had been a resident of At Home Senior Living in Cochran, GA since 2019.
Services will be held at Southerland Funeral Chapel at 2:00PM on Friday, May 5, 2023, with Rev. Clay Layfield officiating with interment in Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Bennett was born and raised in Chester GA and was a graduate of Chester High School. She attended Middle Georgia College and later graduated from Georgia College and State University, earning a BS in Elementary Education. Mrs. Bennett also earned her master’s degree from Georgia College and State University and received her Reading Specialist Certificate from Georgia Southwestern University. She worked as a reading specialist in Dodge and Bleckley County schools for 22 years, teaching both children and adults.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of First Baptist Church of Eastman and attended the Sallie Bacon Sunday School class. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Dodge County and the Eastman Garden club. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family. “Mamo†was famous for her 12-layer chocolate cakes. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Bennett was the daughter of the late Ida Lee Passmore Roland and the late R.C. Roland. She was preceded in death by her husband William Ross Bennett, son William David Bennett, grandson Will Bennett, and sister Venaree Shannon, brothers Billy Roland and Ronald Roland.
Survivors include her son, daughters, and daughter-in-law. She is also survived by her sister, brothers, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law. Mrs. Bennett’s grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to First Baptist Church of Eastman designated to Cornerstone Christian Academy, 5107 Oak Street, Eastman, GA 31023. Friends and family will be gathering at on Thursday, May 4 from 4:00PM - 7:00PM and will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday in Southerland Funeral Chapel.
