Judge James Benjamin O'Connor, Sr. -JAY BIRD SPRINGS - Services for Judge James Benjamin O'Connor, Sr. will be 3P.M. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Chauncey Baptist Church and interment will be in McMillan Family Cemetery. Reverend Royce Vaughn will officiate.
-O'Connor, age 79, died Friday, September 5th at McRae Manor Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Benjamin J. and Tommie Mae McMillan O'Connor. Mr. O'Connor was born on January 17, 1929 in Jay Bird Springs, Dodge County Georgia. He was a graduate of Duke University, AB, 1946, Mercer University, LLB, 1951. He was a member of the United States Army-Judge Advocate Generals Corps, 1951-1955 and a Jump Master. While in service, he was awarded the Spirit of Honor Medal and achieved the rank of Major. He was a Mason, Elk, and Editor-in-chief of the Mercer Law Review, 1950. Judge, Oconee Circuit from 1965-1980 and a Senior Judge throughout Georgia for several years following. Also, a member of the Jay Bird Springs and Chauncey Baptist Churches.
-Survivors include wife; two sons; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Sara Hale O'Connor.
-Lowe's Funeral Home of Helena has charge of the arrangements.
