Ancestors of Dodge County

Original Methodology

This site is about Dodge County Settlers

Therefore certain actions were taken to identify only those people that were in the county

1.  At the point that the person entered the County, his/her father is indicated as an ancestor

a.  For Males, this his last name, year that he entered the county, word ancestor with a "-" and the first letter of his last name (Locke 1920 Ancestor-L)

b.  For Females, the same as above with with a Y- in front of the last name to indicate that this is the ancestral line of a female( Y-Locke 1930 Ancestor-L)

2.  When a husband and wife combination indicated that one of the other came into Dodge County after the other died, both are listed, but the one that did not come into Dodge County has "Dodge:  " set to "Dodge Ancestor"

*Use of the Ancestor not only identifies the top person in the line, but also provides a means of starting at the top Ancestor and maneuvering down thru the family line to present.

Emerging Methodology

During investigation of Settlers and their ancestors, it was discovered that some ancestors in immigrating south came into various Counties of Georgia and later moved to Dodge County

Therefore certain actions are being taken to merge these people back to a common ancestor.

1.  The ancestors outside of Dodge County are added with Dodge set to "Dodge Ancestor"

2.  Only those people int he direct line are included, so many of these families show only one descendant even though there were many.

3.  The top ancestor is identified IAW above, however, the date for entering into Dodge County depends upon the descendant that entered into the County

Future Methodology

Plans are to provide a list of ancestors to Dodge County settlers at least back to their arrival in the United States.

Since the database is so large already, it is unknown just how these will be added (as a separate database or same database.)
